I am going to post a weekly review of TV tidbit’s and movie news, that i feel might be interesting read. There is so much going on in the entertainment industry, it’s hard to keep track of everything, so I am going to help you all out and provide quick and informative news so that everyone is up to date. I thought I would rather do this as a weekly post then, clog up your feed with tons of posts every day. Krysten Ritter will star as Jessica Jones in the upcoming series from Marvel, airing on Netflix. Ritter won out the role over Teresa Palmer. Krysten Ritter is known for her roles on Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, Breaking Bad and She’s out of my League. Jessica Jones will premiere sometime after Daredevil airs next year.
Mike Colter has been cast as Luke Cage in the upcoming series from Marvel which will also be airing on Netflix. In the comics, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones get married, so it is no surprise that we will see Colter appear in the Jessica Jones series before he appears in the Luke Cage series. Mike Colter has appeared in The Following and is currently in Microsoft’s TV show Halo: Nightfall.
Cliff Curtis has been cast as the male lead in the upcoming companion series for The Walking Dead from AMC. The spin-off series will focus on what is happening in other parts of the world in The Walking Dead franchise. Creator Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Elpert are executive producing the pilot for AMC. Curtis is known for his roles in Gang Related and The Last Airbender. Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and Alycia Debnam-Carey have also been cast in the series.
The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt moves from NBC to Netflix. Creator Tina Fey (30 Rock) and Robert Carlock had previously had the show at NBC in which it had a two season order, but has recently been moved to Netflix. Ellie Kemper (The Office) will star as the lead, with Jane Krakowski and Tituss Burgess (both from 30 Rock), Carol Kane, Lauren Adams, Sara Chase and Sol Miranda. The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will premiere next year on Netflix next year.
Seth Rogen and producing partner Evan Goldberg are bringing Preacher, another comic book adaption to AMC. A pilot has been ordered. The story centers on a small-town preacher, Jesse Custer, who becomes possessed by a supernatural creature called Genesis. The comic started in 1995 and has been a favourite of Rogen and Goldberg ever since it came out. The pilot will be considered for the 2016 TV season.
Shannara, an MTV 10 episode straight-to-series show based on Terry Brooks fantasy books have added Aussie actor Aaron Jakubenko to the cast. Jakubenko is known for his roles on Australian soap drama Neighbours and Starz Spartacus. Written by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, Shannara is set in our world, thousands of years after the destruction of our civilization. The story centers on the Shannara family, whose descendants are empowered with ancient magic and whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the world. Jakubenko joins Poppy Dalton who was cast as the lead recently.
Recent premiere dates for new and returning TV shows released are Hart of Dixie returns for Season 4 on the CW on December 15. American Horror Story will wrap it’s final 3 episodes of Season 4 on January 7th. On January 14th Workaholics Season 5, Broad City Season 2, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 10 and Man Seeking Woman will all be airing. On January 16th 12 Monkeys will premiere on Syfy. The Odd Couple will premiere on CBS on January 19th. March 1st is a night of premiere’s with The Last man on Earth, Battle Creek and Secrets and Lies. CSI: Cyber will premiere it’s first season on CBS on March 4th. The Royals will premiere on the E! Network on March 15th. Phew. That’s alot of new dates. Oh wait, Ground Floor will premiere it’s second season on TBS on December 9th.
Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast as Doctor Strange in the new upcoming movie from Marvel that will hit cinema’s on Nov 4, 2016. There were rumors of Jared Leto, Joaquin Phoenix and Tom Hardy to play the Doctor but Cumberbatch has won out the role. With appearances in Star Trek into Darkness, Sherlock and The Hobbit franchise. “Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”
The Suicide Squad has finally been fully cast with Jared Leto to play the Joker in the upcoming Marvel movie to be released on Aug 6, 2016. The full cast is as follows. Will Smith – Deadshot, Jared Leto – The Joker, Margot Robbie – Harley Quinn, Tom Hardy – Rick Flag, Jai Courtney – Boomerang and Cara Delevingne – Enchantress. David Ayer will be directing the superhero movie. Jesse Eisenberg is in talks to reprise his role as Lex Luthor, where he will first appear in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Miles Teller is in talks to join Jonah Hill in the upcoming Todd Phillips movie Arms and the Dudes. Based on a Rolling Stone article written by Guy Lawson, the script has been written by Jason Smilovic. Hill will play one half of a pair of potheads who become unlikely arms dealers when they win a $300 million contract from the government to supply America’s allies in Afghanistan with weapons. As one might guess, the situation spirals out of control and the two find themselves way out of their depths. Production is set to start in the spring.
Roberto Orci will no longer direct Star Trek 3. In May this year, he was signed on to direct the 13th installment of the Star Trek franchise. He was a writer on the last two Star Trek movies and reasons for his departure are still unknown at this early stage. It is believed that Orci’s script who he penned with Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne will still be the one that gets made. It will be the 50th anniversary of Star Trek in 2016 so one would expect the movie will be released in time.
Production will start next year for a remake of the Stephen King novel IT, which will be directed by Cary Fukunaga (True Detective). The story which has gotten author Stephen King’s approval will be split into two installments which interestingly, Cary Fukunaga will only be directing the first movie and joining the writing cast for the second. Whether or not he will be signed onto the second movie is unknown at this point. No release date is set as of yet.
Kickboxer is getting a remake and the cast is set. Jean Claude Van Damme will star as the teacher, not the student this time. Joining him will be Dave Bautista, George St. Pierre, Joe Valtellini, Joe Schilling, Alain Moussi (X-Men: Days of Future Past) and leading lady Sara Malakul Lane (Sharktopus, Jailbait). Kickboxer started production this week. No release date has been set.
With more rumors and speculation, Ryan Reynolds has posted a photo teaser on Twitter that he has signed on to play Deadpool. It is expected to start production in March with Tim Miller in the directors chair. The script will be penned by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick who wrote Zombieland. Ever since his appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a Deadpool movie has had endless rumors and teasing. A short film found it’s way onto Youtube with an action scene with Deadpool in it that caused massive fan reactions and we all though a movie was just around the corner, but alas nothing happened. Keep tuned as I’m sure we’ve not heard the last of these rumours.
