ENDING – Downton Abbey – Season 6
The Crawley family saga is coming to an end.
There will be no season seven for the UK drama Downton Abbey.
Word is that many of the castmembers’ contracts are due to expire at the end of season six and they are ready to move on. Earlier this month, actress Maggie Smith teased that the series would be ending, saying, “I can’t see how it could go on… I mean, I certainly can’t keep going. To my knowledge, I must be 110 by now. We’re into the late 1920s.”
According to insiders, “You can keep the show going without Matthew and Sybill, but you can’t continue it without the entire Crawley family,” an insider notes.”
The series begins at an English country estate called Downton Abbey in April of 1912, with the sinking of the Titanic. It focuses on the lives of the Crawley family and the servants on the estate until August of 1914, with the declaration of the First World War. Two of the main storylines are who will inherit Downtown after the current Lord Grantham Robert Crawley, and Lady Mary Crawley and her desire to find a suitable husband.
PBS airs the show in America.
