FOX have cancelled their series Wayward Pines after one season.

The series remained steady in the ratings, averaging around 3.8 million viewers with the finale to air this week.

It is the second best performing show of the summer for FOX, and they toyed with the idea of bringing the series back for another season, but it would comprise of different actors and characters in the same world of the first season.

On Wayward Pines, Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) drives to the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, in search of two missing federal agents. One was a former partner and they once had an affair. A truck slams into his car, he wakes up in the local hospital, and things start to get really strange. The cast of this thriller series also includes Terrence Howard, Melissa Leo, Carla Gugino, Toby Jones, Shannyn Sossamon, Charlie Tahan, Reed Diamond, Juliette Lewis, and Tim Griffin.

The tenth and final episode will air this Thursday on FOX
