Best 10 TV Shows To Binge On

Ah, the inevitable Best Shows to Binge on List. Everyone seems to do it, and now I’m jumping on the bandwagon.

Look, we’ve all done it. We’ve all sat down, turned on the TV, telling yourself you will just watch one episode. Then before you know it, it’s 2am and you’ve plowed through a whole season of your now, new favorite series without even realising it.

Now while this list isn’t ground-breaking, It shows some of the best TV shows that have ever been made, and if you want to watch something good, you can do no wrong in selecting one of the following titles.

I will follow up with another list of shows you might have missed that you should definitely binge on.

Now, onto the list:

game of thrones

1. Game Of Thrones

Now I know what your thinking, Gah! ANOTHER person recommending Game of Thrones! There is a good reason for this recommendation, it simply is engrossing television. It honestly took me a couple of years to jump on the bandwagon, I thought I wouldn’t enjoy it, and how good could it really be? So I gave it a couple of episodes, and then BAM! I was hooked. I went through 3 seasons in no time. The storyline and multitude of characters and who they are related too and what their title is sometimes can be a little much. There is alot of gruesome violence and sex and should not be watched by younger viewers, but if you are of legal age, open to having your mind blown and are interested in being able to chat with your friends about Geoffrey and Jon Snow and actually know who they are talking about, then wait no longer and binge on Game of Thrones.

There are currently 5 seasons, with the 6th being filmed as we speak and will return on HBO.

walkingdead

2. The Walking Dead

Another violent drama at the top of my list. Again, violence plays a major role in this series, with it being solely around a zombie apocalypse and a group of rag-tag survivors. It’s definitely a slow burner and a thrilling one at that. What starts out as people trying to survive getting eaten by zombies, slowly turns into surviving, well… other people. With each episode comes another moral dilemma, with you sitting back thinking to yourself, how would i react in that situation? Even if zombies aren’t your thing, The Walking Dead is more about what it means to be human more than it is about blowing holes in zombies. (Well there is that too!)

The Walking Dead is currently airing its 6th season on AMC

daredevil

3. Daredevil

The folks at Marvel and Netflix bring us an engrossing story of a blind vigilante fighting crime. It seems silly, and if you’ve seen the 2003 movie adapation of the comic book starring Ben Affleck then you might not be hopeful of the series being any good, but you would be wrong. This series was meant to be binge watched, as the start of each episode follows the last exactly so it’s basically a 12 hour movie, with credits in between. It’s has a dark and gloomy feel to the series, the action is great, the characters compelling. It also boasts what critics are saying is the best fight scene in TV history. The fight scene was filmed in one shot and goes for over 5 minutes. I won’t tell you what episode it’s in, however, you’ll know it when you see it.

Daredevil is currently filming it’s 2nd season and will air on Netflix in 2016.

homeland

4. Homeland

A series about an CIA agent suspecting a former marine was turned by terrorists turns into so much more. Another series I didn’t think I would enjoy, but a crazy storyline and great acting with some edge of your seat thrilling moments makes this a great series. While sometimes some episodes may drag on a little, its only because it’s building to a thrilling climax.

Homeland has just finished airing it’s 5th season on Showtime.

parksandrecreation

5. Parks & Recreation

The first comedy of the list! It took me awhile to see Parks, and I haven’t even finished watching the entire 7 seasons as of yet, but it won’t take me long. Not like other comedies that tell a different story in each episode, Parks has a continuous storyline and each episode picks up right where it left off. Made in the mockumentary style such as The Office and Arrested Development, you will be laughing your pants off at the Parks department of Pawnee and what they get themselves into.

Parks & Recreation finished airing after 7 seasons.

orangeisthenewblack

6. Orange Is The New Black

Let me start by saying I haven’t watched OITNB, I know people who watch it but I haven’t ventured there yet. The reason i’ve included it in this list, is just because I haven’t seen it, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t! It follows the lives of a group of women in prison and their struggles. It does have sex, violence and deals with confronting issues but it airs on Netflix and is meant to be binged. Most people I know that watch it, binge it the weekend the new season comes out. I think you should definitely check it out.

Orange is The New Black has aired 3 seasons on Netflix and its filming it’s 4th now.

americanhorrorstory

7. American Horror Story

Another one I haven’t seen but I’m not really a horror fan, so i’ve decided to give this one a miss. There is a reason it has won a Golden Globe and a multitude of Emmy’s during it’s 5 season run. It’s IMDB’s description is:

“An anthology series that centers on different characters and locations, including a house with a murderous past, an insane asylum, a witch coven, a freak show and a hotel.”

So every season is a new story with different characters, also with some recurring characters who weave in and out of the series. It has been touted as genuinely frightening. If you are a horror or thriller fan, I think you will be entralled by having an American Horror Story marathon.

American Horror Story is currently airing it’s 5th season on FX.

truedetective

8. True Detective

While there has only been 2 seasons so far, True detective has certainly shown us that police dramas don’t have to be in the vein of CSI or Law & Order to be amazing. Another anthology series where each season is it’s own storyline and characters. The first season followed Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey as they tried to solve a series of murders. Some of the best acting the pair have produced in my opinion. The second season follows Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and Colin Farrell as they too investigate murders. It’s a gritty look at the world of working for the police and it is a suspenseful ride that I bet once you start, You won’t be able to stop!

True Detective has aired 2 seasons on HBO.

breakingbad

9. Breaking Bad

You knew it would be on here. The show which some claim as being TV finest. Breaking Bad follows Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul as they team up to cook and sell crystal meth. An unbelievable ride, with unbelievable drama. It is rated 95% on both IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes by hundreds of thousands of people. I’m sure you all know about Breaking Bad. If you haven’t seen it, to binge is the only way to go!

Breaking Bad aired 5 seasons on AMC.

fargo2

10. Fargo

Fargo makes the top 10 list. Just. Even though it has only airing it’s second season, it’s a crazy show with compelling characters that are interesting and most of them are a little bit crazy. The series is based on the 1996 film of the same name. The first season starred Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman, while the second season is a prequel story, so you definitely need to watch the first to understand what’s going on. It’s a bit of an oddball show, but I guarantee you’ll fall in love the characters, storyline and town.

Fargo is currently airing it’s 2nd season on FX.

Honorable mentions: Mr. Robot, Sons of Anarchy, House Of Cards and Downton Abbey

So there is my list. Obviously there will be shows that you believe should be on there, and hey, I’m sure i’ve missed a lot of great shows, but if you haven’t seen most or any of the above shows, you need too!

So, which shows do you think should be on the list? What have i missed? Or have I got it spot on? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Based on the comic book of the same name from Marvel, the movie plot is that in the far reaches of space, an American pilot named Peter Quill finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan.

With an All-star cast including Chris Pratt (Parks & Recreation), Zoe Saldana (Avatar), Vin Diesel (Fast & Furious), Bradley Cooper (The Hangover), Dave Bautista (WWE), Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond) and Benicio Del Toro (Traffic), this latest comic book adaption is certainly shooting for the stars.
